Package: CPD – encouraged and funded, pay – competitive (including comprehensive health and income protection insurance), smart phone, vehicle and equipment supplied, after hours generally 1 in 4 with a half day Friday the following week.

Type of Work: Mixed (Companion and Production) Animal Veterinary Surgeon, Permanent

Job Details: Our client is based in the Tasman region, less than two hours drive northwest of Nelson.  They are looking for a mixed vet with an interest in dairy and companion animal, but they do see a bit of everything so there is potential to get involved with other species as well. You will become part of a team of five vets providing a very proactive level of service to members and clients. Part time or full time, new grad or experienced, if you are interested in us, then we are interested in you.

What do this team love about their job?

  • The clients – Their farmers are (by and large) a great bunch of people.  They are mostly family owned and operated farms and you really do get to establish relationships, understand their businesses and motivations, and watch their kids grow up.
  • The scenery – you never get bored driving around here!
  • The work – while there are the usual routine jobs to do, you will get to see a lot of cool things, and their pricing is very competitive. Most clients are willing to let you give things a go, if you want to.  There is also plenty of scope to grow the business in a number of areas (eg - nutrition, sheep and beef, equine), if you are motivated by that sort of thing. Outside of Spring, afterhours is very quiet.

A bit about the area;

  • The scenery – this town is nestled inside two National Parks, with tramping, biking, and climbing all within a stones throw.  The Bay is perfect for all sorts of water sports except maybe surfing, and there are fish, paua and crays, if you know where to go.
  • The community – You would struggle to find a community as diverse, there is something here for everyone.  Sports, music, hunting, art, history, yoga, pottery, wildlife, mountain biking, conservation and even full moon gong concerts - there is a club or group here that is into whatever it is that you are interested in.
  • The weather – We won’t lie, it can rain here (annual rainfall is 2 – 3 m) but this is usually during the night and generally we have a lovely climate with lots and lots of sunshine.

If New Zealand is the best place in the world to live, work and raise kids, then this town is the best of the best!
