Type of Work: Mixed/Large Animal Associate Vet Surgeon, Full-Time, Permanent
Job Details: Our client is looking for a new or recent graduate vet to join the team, at their long established and expanding dairy and mixed practice in north-west Tasmania, Australia. This is a predominantly dairy cattle practice but with a good mix of beef and small animals, horses and a taste of wildlife, birds and exotics. The dairy work includes farm visits and emergency work, herd health programs, bull fertility testing, consultancy work (mastitis, reproduction and nutrition), lameness as well as manual and ultrasound pregnancy testing.
The practice has some great toys to make their lives easier eg two mobile tipper crushes, five portable ultrasounds, bull fertility testing equipment and an in-house blood analyser for large and small animals. They have all the usual small animal equipment including bone plating gear and digital radiography as well as horse facilities and a powerfloat. They pride themselves in being very active in the area of farmer education through the provision of seminars and courses, and also at a higher industry level with Dairy Australia.
This position would suit a new or recent graduate with a genuine interest in dairy practice. You will be well supported by great vet mentors, as well as the experienced mixed and small animal vets plus of course a team of fantastic nurses and receptionists.
They pride themselves on the strong level of professional support and backup that they provide for their vets. Several of their vets are ACV approved pregnancy test examiners. This practice is also a recognised extramural teaching site for a number of universities, and is one of five vet practices partnered with the University of Melbourne's Dairy Resident Training Program.
Their modern, well equipped clinic is centrally located in a very progressive and intensive farming district. It is located in the heart of Tasmania's most intensive dairying and beef area - more than 60 000 milking cows with an average herd size of about 400 but many with 800 plus cows. Along with Tasmania's relaxed lifestyle, it offers a wide range of leisure and sporting activities. Iconic Cradle Mountain, many other national parks and magnificent coastal scenery are all within close proximity. Tasmania remains one of the best kept secrets in the world.
If you are an exceptional new graduate with a genuine interest in dairy cattle, we would love to hear from you.
