Job Details:  Our Client are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join their veterinary team. This is an excellent opportunity to further away from clinical veterinary practice.

The highly seasonal nature of the work means that this post may suit an individual who wishes to combine a full-time role with other work/travel outside of the peak season.

The successful candidate will be provided with training in artificial breeding services as follows:

  • Inducing & monitoring general anaesthetic procedures in sheep and goats
  • Semen collection and handling, semen freezing and thawing, semen assessment and its practical application within an AI programme
  • Ram fertility examinations and ewe reproductive health advice
  • Advanced reproductive technologies including laparoscopy, artificial insemination, OPU, embryo recovery and transfer
  • Specific pre and post operative care and advice to clients

It is understood that the initial training period may take 1-2 years before the successful candidate will be able to provide these services on a commercial basis and become a registered Team Leader.

The normal hours of work are 36.5 hours per week, based around usual office hours of 08:30 - 17:30 Monday - Thursday and 08:30 - 16:00 on a Friday. Work can be seasonal and additional hours (and weekend hours) may be required in the peak season which can be taken as days off in lieu in the low season. The option for payment of overtime will be in line with contract terms.

The position is based near Edinburgh and will require the applicant to work in both UK and Ireland and, on occasion, internationally. The successful person should hold a full, clean Driving License. There will be off-site work when working on farms, and accommodation will be paid for along with reasonable expenses submitted in line with the expenses policy.

Skills & Requirements: Working as part of a small team, you will be required to have excellent interpersonal skills. An MRCVS qualification is essential and experience in small ruminant surgery would be beneficial. our Client would ideally like someone with 3-5 years experience in large animal work. Previous training in AI or ET would be advantageous but not necessary. Addition skills required:
