Job Details: Our client have an excellent opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their busy team. Most of their nurses work a 4-day week with a share in the Saturday rota but there is no out-of-hours requirement. Their fantastic team comprises 2 full-time vets, with a 3rd vet due to start in autumn, 3 veterinary nurses and reception staff. The nursing team help with administration, reception, and cleaning duties as well as:

  • Monitor anaesthetics
  • Conduct Schedule 3 procedures and dental scale and polish
  • Take skin scrapes, hair plucks, cytology samples, urine samples, etc and interpret findings
  • Take and develop X-rays
  • Conduct sterilisation/regular maintenance of practice equipment as appropriate
  • Run and maintain the biochemistry, haematology, and coagulation machine
  • Create and implement care plans for in-patients and update computer records
  • Hold nursing clinics (e.g. diabetic, geriatric, dental, puppy parties, worming and microchipping) and special events (information days, open days)
  • Maintain contact with clients about the animal’s well-being after surgery
  • Instruct and supervise work experience students/pupils and act as clinical coach after relevant training
  • Ensure up-to-date knowledge of drugs, diets, behavioural aids, etc.
  • Report to on duty vet
  • Have a pro-active attitude towards lifelong learning (CPD) and keeping this up to date
  • Be familiar with RVN rules and regulations and RCVS
  • Maintain the highest level of knowledge in all aspects relevant to your job and adhere to Best Practice at all times
  • Demonstrate a commitment to collegiality
  • Assisting the vets during consulting, X-ray, surgery, post-op care/discharge and house visits
They are a 100% small animal clinic and have been providing services toa loyal client base for over 15 years! The team see a wide variety of cases of cats, dogs, and exotic animals, covering a workload that ranges from the standard vaccinations, microchipping, neutering, dental, in-house laboratory, X-ray interpretation of pet passports, pregnancy diagnosis with ultrasound, hip and elbow scoring and PAT dog assessments. To more specialist services and treatments, such as chemotherapy, echocardiograms, ECG, video endoscope and bronchoscope for non-invasive investigations and advanced surgeries.
Their equipment is extensive and includes a modern IDEXX in-house laboratory (catalyst and procyte), digital AGFA CR X-ray, colour Doppler ultrasound with ECG, tonopen, and slit lamp.
 
Applicant Requirements
  • RVN qualification or student nurse
  • Relevant companion animal nursing experience (including exotics)
  • Ability to assist veterinary surgeon in routine and non-routine ops, good knowledge of emergency nursing
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experienced in using X-ray, dental scale and polish, blood pressure and able to set up ultrasound; experienced in processing and interpreting urine and cytology samples
  • Experienced in reception duties, including order, computer and phone use
  • Experienced in maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Proactive and motivated with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Good standard of personal presentation
