Type of Work: Small Animal Vet Surgeon

Job Details: Our client is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join them for a period of maternity cover, with the possibility of a more permanent post. A normal day in the life would consist of a good mixture of consult and surgery work depending on the rota for that day. They would try to incorporate operating time each day, particularly if the Vet Surgeon was to be on a later finish with evening consultations. There would be client calls and some telephone consultations and of course reporting on any in patient that vet surgeon was responsible for.

They are a busy practice but try to have breaks during the working day particularly if on a later finish. As a minimum they have a break at lunchtime and in the later afternoon before evening clinic starts.

The rota is averaged out over a 6-week rotation
•    Weekdays start at 9:00am
•    2 days finish after evening consults at 8:00pm
•    1 day finishes after afternoon consults at 4:00pm
•    1 day finishes at 1:00pm
•    1 day finishes at approx 3pm
•    One week in 6 is a bonus week, with 2 days off and then 2pm start for 3 days with 8pm finish

Weekend work
•    2 out of 6 weekends (consisting of 2 Saturdays full day and one Sunday 10am to 12 midday)
•    No OOHs as we use OOH service provider

They are well-equipped at the surgery. They have ultrasonic instrument cleaning and vacuum sterilisers separated from non-clean procedure areas, including a separate diagnostic x-ray/ultrasound room. they can offer in-house blood testing using the latest Idexx analysers and also Sedivue analyser for urine sediment analysis. They have facilities to offer blood pressure testing, cryosurgery, to perform suction and have a fully integrated dental machine.

The candidate has experience, ideally in a similar small animal practice setting. Confidence and proficiency in performing routine operations comfortably including caesarean section would be desirable. However, if necessary, they could accommodate a Veterinary Surgeon looking to gain further experience in these areas and would be happy to offer support if needed, for performing surgery and handling medicine cases. A most important attribute would be the ability to get on well in a team and with valued clients.
