Job Details: Our Client are looking for a Laboratory Manager for their Veterinary Diagnostic Lab based in Coventry. They are a leader in veterinary diagnostic development and service worldwide. They have a strong history of personal, high quality, diagnostic laboratory service and is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic Lab manager to lead the team and to help with further expansion.

Our Client are interested to hear from ambitious and bright individuals with experience and qualification to provide expert leadership and management of the lab service and staff. This is a full-time role working Monday - Friday 9am - 5:30pm. Flexibility is required and there is no work on weekends or bank holidays.

The starting salary would be adjusted to reflect the degree of experience and qualifications.

This is a small lab with 4 technicians and 3 pathologists. They are looking for someone to ensure smooth running of the lab, reporting to the Business Manager. They are really looking for someone with good lab experience, ideally a Vet (although happy to consider RVNs with good lab experience), someone who has good management experience and 2 years diagnostic experience. 

Main Responsibilities:

  •  To manage, supervise and give scientific and technical guidance to a team of laboratory technicians

  • To participate in the day to day running of the diagnostic laboratory.

  • To establish a program for training new staff including cross training existing staff on lab operations and equipment.

  • To manage and optimize laboratory workflow.

  • To be responsible for internal QC and EQA.

  • To write, update and implement Standard Operating Procedures for testing methods used within the laboratory, including implementation of new testing techniques.

  • To manage performances, conduct and absence of staff members.

  • To be responsible for ordering of consumable material.

  • To be the contact person to deal with LABOKLIN headquarters for technical issues

  • To interact with clients over the phones and, if requested, at congresses

  • To complete duties that may not be in your day to day workflow.

Desired Skills & Competencies:

  • DVM, BVM&S, RVN or BSc (relevant degree)
  • Highly developed leadership qualities
  • Skills & Experience in working with haematology/biochemistry/endocrinology analysers
  • Previous experience in a diagnostic veterinary lab - 2 years minimum
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Good knowledge of computer applications and LIMS including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Reliable, Hard-working, strong communication skills with good customer service skills
